Tamworth trainer Mel O’Gorman knew it wouldn’t be easy to find another horse that could make the sort of impact Suncraze did for her, but she sees enough potential in So Country to believe he can take her back to the final of the Newhaven Park Country Championships.

It’s that time of the year when country trainers look at which horses might fit the bill for The Kosciuszko and Tamworth trainer Mel O’Gorman is more than happy to throw the aptly named So Country’s name into the ring given the horse has already been a pleasant surprise.

The name is a racing institution on the Northern Rivers and for the McGurens - Samantha and Matthew - who met as brilliant young apprentice riders, their first city starter, outsider Fortyfive Parklane ($41 on TAB) is likely an endurance test for Matt into a TAB Highway at Rosehill Gardens on Saturday.
