Timeform Recap: Missile Stakes

Invincible Gem has upstaged her more fancied stablemate with a win in the Group 2 Missile Stakes (1200m) at Randwick on Saturday.

The Kris Lees-trained runner settled in a good spot off the speed before peeling wide on the turn, running on strongly the final 200m to record a one and a quarter length win over Le Romain in second with The Monstar third.

Invincible Gem came into the race first up, last seen when runner up in the Randwick Guineas behind Inference earlier in the year.

The now four-year-old mare returned a new career peak Timeform figure of 115, two pounds above her effort in the Guineas.

Invincible Gem, who looks set for a big spring campaign ahead, measured up well to recent winners, returning a Timeform figure seven pounds above 2016 winner Tycoon Tara and the same as Burbero in 2015 before the mares allowance.

Le Romain would have lost no admirers in second also running to 115, well below his peak of 125 and four pounds below his second placing in the All Aged before a spell.

The Monstar in third continued his strong recent form, running to 115 as well, the same figure he has returned three starts in a row now.

Sayed

Earlier in the day Sayed continued his winning form with a dominant victory in the Benchmark 85 Handicap over 2400m.

The Chris Waller-trained runner has now won four of his six starts this campaign and blitzing his rivals by over five lengths on Saturday ran to a new clear new career peak Timeform figure of 107p.

The improving four-year-old ran some nine pounds above his previous best achieved the start prior when winning at Warwick Farm and now looks set to target some Group 1 staying features in the spring.

The son of Stormy Atlantic (USA) could find himself lining up in a race like The Metropolitan during the Sydney Spring Carnival but will certainly need to improve again off that effort.

Get On The Grange who finished well back in second continued his solid recent form, returning a Timeform figure of 98, the same he ran to the start prior when runner up in the Grafton Cup.

Go Benny was eight and a half lengths off the winner in third and ran to 77, well below the 83 he ran to the start prior when fourth at Rosehill Gardens.

Steyne

Steyne made pleasing return to the winners circle in the Benchmark 90 Handicap over 1600m, settling off the leaders before hitting the lead on the turn, running out a two length winner over Admiral Jello in second with Gold Ambition third.

Steyne continues to work his way through the grades and has now won five of his eight starts and three of four this campaign.

The Team Snowden-trained runner ran to a clear new peak Timeform figure of 96, eight pounds above his previous peak achieved in both previous wins this campaign.

Fairly lightly raced for an eight year old, Steyne looks as though he has really started to find his best and with some improvement could find himself in some stakes races during the spring.

Admiral Jello in second also looks set for a solid campaign, running to 96, his highest rating since winning at Randwick last campaign.
