Inverell racecourse is the home of the Inverell Jockey Club and hosts five race meetings each season. The highlight of the year is the renowned Christmas/New Year carnival featuring race meetings on Boxing Day and the Inverell Cup on New Year’s Day. Inverell lies beside the Macintyre River and is located on the Gwydir Highway between Glen Inesd and Moree, 400km northwest of Sydney. Racing began in the Inverell district in the late 1800s not long after the township was founded in 1853. Inverell Racecourse has a circumference of 1600 metres and a home straight of 400 metres.
