Cuddle

New Zealand racing fans know of Cuddle by reputation as the best staying mare of the 1930s. She won both the New Zealand and Auckland Cups of 1935, both by a remarkable six lengths, and the Auckland Cup again the following year under 9st 3lb or 58.5kg, still a weight-carrying record for a mare. What really emphasises that she had great class, however, as well as stamina, were Australian wins in the Doncaster and All Aged Stakes in Sydney and the St George Stakes in Melbourne.
