The Takashi Saito-trained Summer Scent (4 f ex Primrose Lane by Sunday Silence) produced a top-class display to win the Mermaid Stakes (Gr 3, 2000m) at Hanshin on Sunday and in the process handed the Shadai Stallion Station-based Harbinger (Dansili) with his 18th stakes winner.

The Godolphin-raced four-year-old stayed on strongly to beat Centelleo (Deep Impact) by three-quarters of a length with another length and a quarter back to Lune Rouge (Monterosso) in third.

The filly is one of six winners out of the Sunday Silence (Halo) mare Primrose Lane, who is herself a sister to Sundrop - the dam of Listed-winning duo Nature's Colors (Poet's Voice) and Whitman (Poet's Voice), while she is also the grandam of Listed scorer Quiet Times (Reliable Man).

Meanwhile, the filly's third dam is Listed-placed mare Fruition (Rheingold), who in turn produced multiple top-flight scorer Northern Spur (Sadler's Wells) and Grade 3 winners Great Marquess (Touching Wood) and Kneller (Lomond). Further afield this is the same family as 2013 New Zealand Oaks (Gr 1, 2400m) winner More Than Sacred (More Than Ready) and Listed winner Sacred Empire (More Than Ready).

Harbinger's progeny are headed by five Group 1 winners, including last year's Nassau Stakes (Gr 1, 1m2f) winner Deirdre.

Summer Scent becomes the tenth stakes winner bred on the Harbinger / Sunday Silence cross which includes Grade 1 winner Persian Knight.
