The Mitsumasa Nakauchida-trained Grenadier Guards (2 c ex Wavell Avenue by Harlington) showed his class when he landed the Asahi Hai Futurity (Gr 1, 1600m) at Hanshin on Sunday and in the process handed Frankel (Galileo) his 12th Grade 1 winner - third in Japan - and 61st stakes winner overall.

Last seen breaking his maiden over 1400 metres at Hanshin in November, the two-year-old colt surged home to beat Stella Veloce (Bago) by three-quarters of a length, while Red Belle Aube (Deep Impact) was another length and a half behind in third.

The colt is out of 2015 Breeders' Cup Filly and Mare Sprint (Gr 1, 7f) winner Wavell Avenue (Harlington) and she is a daughter of Listed-placed mare Lucas Street (Silver Deputy).

Further afield this is the same family as Listed-placed Ruby Park (Bold Ruckus), Tothemoonandback (Perigee Moon) and Perigee Girl (Perigee Moon).

Grenadier Guards is Frankel’s third Grade 1 winner in Japan joining Mozu Ascot and Soul Stirring, while he has now sired four stakes winners in total in the country with the stallion also represented by Grade 3 scorer Mi Suerte.

Frankel will stand the 2021 season at Juddmonte Farms’ Banstead Manor base in Newmarket for a fee of £175,000.
