Darley first season sire Astern (Medaglia d’Oro) sired his first stakes winner and 7th winner when Danger Strykes (2 f ex She Is Stryking by Stryker) took at the Castletown Stakes (Listed, 1200m) at Wanganui on Saturday.

Danger Strykes enjoyed the run of the race in fourth position one out one back. She travelled smoothly into the race taking the home turn four wide. She responded well to riding wearing down the leaders to hit the front inside the final 200 metres and had enough in reserve to hold off Ima Roca Bee (El Roca) to score with her ears pricked by a long neck.

Danger Strykes, who was only having her second start, was passed in for NZ$50,000 at the NZB Karaka Book 1 yearling sale. She is the second foal out of the stakes placed mare She Is Stryking, while her third dam is the Maribyrnong Trial Stakes (Listed, 1000m) winner Fashion Victim (Rory’s Jester).

In Australia later in the day Astern sired his 8th winner when Somewatt Fabulous won on debut at Morphettville. Somewatt Fabulous was a $45,000 purchase by her trainers Richard & Chantelle Jolly at the Inglis Classic Yearling Sale.

Astern now moves to fourth on the leading first season sires of Australia table by winners which is headed by Capitalist (Written Tycoon) on 16, followed by Star Turn (Star Witness) with 12 and Sooboog (Snitzel) on nine.
