Godolphin announce Paulele plans

Godolphin Group 1 winner to stand at stud in Victorian.

PAULELE winning the Crown Perth-Winterbottom Stakes

The home for last year's Winterbottom Stakes winner Paulele has been confirmed with Godolphin on Thursday announcing that the son of Dawn Approach will stand in Victoria for the 2023 breeding season.

The rising five-year-old will stand at Sheikh Mohammed's Darley Northwood Park facility in Victoria at a fee of $16,500, including GST.

Godolphin Australia's managing director Vin Cox said Paulele was a 'straight-forward' fit for their Victorian operation.

"The decision to stand Paulele in Victoria was straight-forward; there's significant investment in the Victorian industry from investment in broodmare bands through to infrastructure, training facilities and operations to race programming, welfare initiatives and even the all-important VOBIS scheme that rewards both owners and breeders," Cox said.

The Winterbottom Stakes (1200m) at Ascot in Perth was the most significant of eight wins from 24 starts for Paulele.

He also won the Roman Consul Stakes (1200m) and Schillaci Stakes (1100m) at Group 2 level and the Group 3 Eskimo Prince Stakes (1200m).

Although stud plans have been announced, his racing career is not over with trainer James Cummings preparing him for a shot at the Group 1 Doomben 10,000 in Brisbane on May 13.

Cox expects breeding rights that will be offered in Paulele to be popular.

"We'll offer a limited number of breeding rights in him, and he'll be further backed by the Godolphin broodmare band and our nominations, stallion, marketing and racing teams to ensure he receives every opportunity," he said.
