Coolmore Australia shuttler (Churchill) recorded his sixth first crop winner on Wednesday when Ladies Church (2 f ex Rioticism by Rio De La Plata) broke her maiden at Tipperary, coming less than 24 hours after well-bred colt Upon A River (2 c ex Cassandra Go by Indian Ridge) broke his maiden at Roscommon on Tuesday evening.

Trained by Johnny Murtagh, Ladies Church finished fourth on debut at Cork on June 9 and on Wednesday she responded well when asked by Ben Coen in the final 200 metres to hold off favourite Orinoco River (War Front) and score by three quarters of a length. Pearl Palinka (No Nay Never) was another two and a quarter lengths back in third.

Bred by Dukes Stud and Overbury Stallions, Ladies Church is the first foal out of Listed winning mare Rioticism (Rio De La Plata). She was bought for 62,000gns by Margaret O’Toole at the 2019 Tattersalls December Foal Sale before being resold to Peter Nolan and her trainer for £160,000 at the Goffs Ireland Orby Yearling Sale last year when held in Doncaster.

Churchill will stand for a fee of $22,000 (inc GST) at Coolmore Australia this spring having covered 119 mares at a fee of $19,250 (inc GST) last year.
