Darley's Masar (New Approach) sired his first winner on Thursday when Will Scarlet (2 c ex Lady Marian by Nayef) broke his maiden at Longchamp on Thursday.

Bred by Godolphin and trained in France by Andre Fabre, Will Scarlet finished a close second on debut last month and went one better at his second start, pulling three quarters of a length clear of Intellect (Intello).

The colt is the ninth foal out of Group 1 winner Lady Marian (Nayef).

Masar was trained by Charlie Appleby to win the 2018 Derby (1m4f) at Epsom. A Group 3 winner as a juvenile, he retired to stud having won four of his 11 career starts and stood his first season for a fee of £15,000.

Masar's 2023 fee at Darley's Dalham Hall Stud in Newmarket was advertised at £14,000.
