Expedition (He's Remarkable) scored a two and three quarter length victory over 1200 metres at Southland last Saturday for trainers Nikki and Barrie Blatch, with the mare purchased for only NZ$700 from a auction last year.

"She's a great little horse and a bit of a surprise package," said owner-trainer Nikki Blatch.

"We thought she might be one run short as with the weather down here she had missed some work.

"She is also better suited to a 1400 metre trip so to win on Saturday was a real surprise.

"She has come through the race well and next up we are aiming for the feature meeting at Wingatui onFebruary 29."

Expedition is out of Volksraad (Green Desert) mare Anticipation who is a sister to the dam of multiple Group 1 winner Volkstok'n'barrell (Tavistock). She has now won three times and placed in another four starts. She was bought for NZ$15,000 at the 2016 New Zealand Bloodstock Select Yearling Sale in 2016.

The last fortnightly auction posted an 85 per cent clearance rate across 71 Lots entered and a top price of $41,000.

Entries for the next sale are due online by 7pm Monday February 24.
