Haunui Farm shuttler Belardo (Lope De Vega) sired his second southern hemisphere-bred winner on Wednesday when Midnight Rocket (2 c ex Midnight Breaker by Housebuster) made a winning debut over 1000 metres at Te Aroha.

The Stephen Marsh-trained two-year-old colt showed a good turn of foot to beat La Dolce Vita (Per Incanto) by a quarter of a length, while Danger Strykes (Astern) was a further length and a quarter back in third.

The colt was purchased by T Pollard and his trainer for NZ$50,000 at Book 2 of the New Zealand Bloodstock Karaka 2020 Sale from the Haunui Farm draft and he is out of dual winner Midnight Breaker (Housebuster).

Midnight Breaker is the dam of eight other winners headed by 2015 Karaka 2YO Million (RL, 1200m) winner Hardline (Showcasing), while she is also the grandam of Group 2 winner Xpression (Showcasing).

The colt’s second dam is Listed winner Midnight Madam (Kaapstad) - the dam of dual Group 1 winner Perlin (Carnegie) and Listed scorer Almodovar (Pins).

Midnight Breaker’s 2019 colt by Belardo was bought by Squair Bloodstock for NZ$41,550 at the New Zealand Bloodstock Karaka National Weanling Sale and she was not covered in 2020.

Belardo’s southern hemisphere crop is headed by Listed winner Avonallo, while he is the sire of 20 winners worldwide and his progeny is headed by four other stakes winners, including Group 2 scorer Isabella Giles.
