Preakness 147 Preview

All eyes will be on Pimlico Racetrack, Baltimore, on Saturday 21st May, 2022, for the second jewel in the Triple Crown, the Preakness Stakes. Run over 1 3/16m for three year olds, the 147th running of the Preakness Stakes will be held two weeks after the Kentucky Derby and three weeks before the final leg, the Belmont Stakes.

In 2020 Swiss Skydiver  became only the 6th filly in history to win the race, and did so in a near record time, almost equalling the legendary Secretariat in 1973.

In 2021 Rombauer  made a last second push down the home stretch to pull ahead of Midnight Bourbon  and the tragic Medina Spirit, to win the 146th Preakness Stakes for Jockey Flavien Prat and Trainer Michael McCarthy.

The two-day Preakness meeting at Pimlico will also feature the Black-Eyed Susan Stakes (for fillies) on the Friday. Both days' races are timed well for a European audience, with expected post times for the big races around 10.40pm BST / 11.40pm CET.

And showing race organisers have a good sense of humour, the after-race entertainment will be headlined by.. Meghan Thee Stallion.
