Exciting weekend at the Curragh

Doubles and Trebles and all sorts of excitements and the Guiness would have been flowing very fast!

It was a modest start on Saturday when Blackbeard won the Marble Hill Stakes like a good favourite should and may be headed for Ascot now.

Bit more excitement when Brad The Brief beat home Mooneista and A Case of You in the Greenlands G2 for the start of a double for William Buick.

The second part came in the next race, the Irish 2000 Guineas, when Native Trail won easily beating 40/1 shot New Energy and 28/1 pop Imperial Fighter to give trainer Charlie Appleny a rare treble of the English, French and Irish 2000 Guineas races.  Wexford Native our roughie ran 4th and should stay in the little black book.

Sunday saw a thrilling edition of the Tattersall's Gold Cup when the William Haggas trained Alenquer emerged from the pack and under Tom Marquand flew at the finish line denying High Definition 16/1 and State of Rest.  It was Marquand's first group win in Ireland and Haggas was to saddle a double when Majoom won the German 2000 Guineas.

Pearls Galore won the Landwades G2 mile and then Homeless Songs stormed home to win the 1000 Guineas by 5 ½ lengths over Tuesday, the 11/4 favourite and her stablemate Concert Hall 8/1.
