Charyn justified favouritism to win the bet365 Mile at Sandown on Friday, building on his impressive Doncaster Mile success.
The Roger Varian-trained colt enjoyed mixed fortunes during his three-year-old campaign but looked a different horse when securing a comfortable three-and-a-half length success at Doncaster on his reappearance.
Settled at the back by regular rider Silvestre de Sousa, the grey enjoyed an untroubled passage throughout the mile contest, but appeared to be in trouble when asked to make a challenge at the two furlong marker. Both Poker Face and Lord North were travelling well behind long-term leader Pogo. De Sousa switched his whip into the left hand and Charyn began to make headway, powering home on the outside for a one-and-a-quarter length success.
In a post race interview with ITV Racing, de Sousa said: "He's a lovely horse. He won on his debut this year at Doncaster in great fashion, he loved the ground, Roger has him in good form so he deserved to win that kind of race. Maybe the horse has taken a bit of time to grow up."
Paddy Power reacted to the victory by cutting Charyn from 10/1 to 9/2 for the Group 1 Lockinge Stakes.
