Best From The West: Belmont – 10th July 2021

It shapes as a wet meeting after the week in Perth when they run the Beaufine Stakes but it doesn’t look to be relenting.

That Beaufine has some very in form horses running and one of them Nerodio is hard fit, in that winning form and loves the conditions.

The son of Playing God has had 20 starts and only missed the placings once in his career.

Interestingly, with that record and racing over the sharpest of trips, he isn't a leader.

You would think he'd be taking control but he's been happy to sit back and find the line.

The last couple have been good under big weights so this shouldn't pose a huge issue at the 1000m.

From this start he can cart into the race without doing heavy work and maybe coming widest is a good spot given the track and the rail. He is a good each way play.

One we were keen on at odds first up Zaratite can get that win now second up in a similar race back in Race 4.

The son of Animal Kingdom was able to sit on the pace there and kicked hard to just miss.

He will be fitter again and while getting to 2000m+ would be even better, the wet track likely makes this a sterner test.

The gelding loves the damper surfaces so he just looks so hard to beat under these circumstances.
