Best From The West: Belmont – 14th August 2021

The Listed Belmont Newmarket will be a good contest this weekend as the first good race of the new season.

It is filled with quality Perth sprinters – some of whom have done well over East.

One of those is Indian Pacific and having waited for this race, it could well bear fruit.

They took the plunge to run him in Melbourne and after a second to a flying machine Fabergino in the Bob Hoysted, they raised the bar.

He ran a cracker when trying to lead all the way in Newmarket only to be run down late and missing by a head.

Off two trials, he'll be fit enough, has won on damper ground before and he only needs to handle the weight to be the one to beat.

In the last race, Mr Delegator can continue his good campaign and run well again over the 1600m.

The last couple have been over that distance and he won two back at Northam before leading and finishing close up here.

The gelding is yet to miss the placings on wet ground and by the final event you would want to be handling it as it could be impacted greatly.

His apprentice did win on him two back so knows the horse and the 3kg is a little bonus in an even race as this is.
