Sydney Specials: Randwick – 5th March 2022

Well what do you do? It was amazing that Randwick and its ground staff were able to withstand the horrible weather last Saturday. One week on and things are worse.

Assuming we do race, we sure know what we are dealing with and that is a very very damp surface.

Safe to say you're unlikely to be loading up on anything but the one thing you must do is be confident of them handling the track and having a history on it.

There is not much better wet form than the French and when their tracks are affected, you are often dealing with as affected as you can get.

Chris Waller showed last week his imports were in a nice raft of form and we'll go for another one in the shape of Sheraz.

Must be noteworthy that James McDonald rides this Sea The Stars gelding which is never a bad thing.

When back in France, Sheraz took on some lovely horses and the times run at Longchamp and Chantilly were indicative of plenty of moisture.

His Parramatta Cup effort was more than acceptable and there is a nice turn around at the weights from Mightybeel. Backing him both totes.

The other bet may not be of French origin but the form is as we're taking Laws Of Indices in the Canterbury Stakes.

Here is a horse bought to run here in races like the Golden Eagle and he went very well coming from well back.

Off his first spell in Australia he worked to the line in a superb fashion in the Southern Cross Stakes. That race was run at a good tempo and he hit the line off it.

Now he gets to a surface on which he will have no drama. Just recall he won the G1 Prix Jean Prat on soft ground at Deauville.

Annabel Neasham has shown a knack with these types of horses and with Zaaki out of the way, it's an open WFA contest now.
