Stampede wins Jra Colin Stephen Quality Group 3 $160,000 at Rosehill, 2400m.
Stampede backed up after his game second to Finche (Frankel) in the Kingston Town Stakes (Gr 3, 2000m) at Randwick seven days ago to score a very good win here, his first beyond 2000m. He began well and went to the front as expected. He then set a reasonably good tempo, increased the pace nearing the 600m and was not really in any danger from that point to win comfortably by two lengths.
Master Of Arts raced in fourth place before moving up well in the straight and briefly looking to have winning prospects before battling on nicely for second, finding the winner (who conceded him 6kg) too good.
Maurus raced back in seventh place, improved between runners rounding the home turn, went to fourth at the 200m and kept finishing on to take third.
The favourite Dabiyr tracked the winner, was under pressure nearing the home turn and he just battled on from that point to finish (4.1 lengths) fourth.
