Singapore Racing - Weekend Review : 27th of September 2019

Just the sole meeting in Singapore last weekend with the Class 2 sprint the key highlight on Friday night.

A field of 13 lined up in the seventh event with the Michael Clements trained Bold Thruster very game in defeat.

Forced to give weight away to all of his rivals, Bold Thruster surprisingly made a mess of the start before being hunted forward to take up a position.

Picking his way through the field, Bold Thruster made up good ground, but was unable to find the front and was forced to sit wide throughout.

Pressing on to challenge for the lead on straightening, Bold Thruster took over and fought hard all the way up the straight, but was a sitting shot late.

The James Peters' trained Grand Koonta enjoyed the perfect run and was good enough to take full advantage.

Well supported late to start the $3.60 second elect, Grand Koonta has now won four of his six starts in Singapore and is clearly a galloper trending the right way.

Rated 91 by Timeform, he continues to raise the bar and races best when kept fresh.

In two starts for his new stable Bold Thruster has been denied, however from a ratings perspective he has never gone better.

Rated 109 by Timeform, he is easily one of the best sprinters in Singapore and certainly lost no admirers on Friday night.

Once he finds himself in a set weights race, he is going to be very hard to beat.

Although only able to finish fifth, the eye catcher was Sacred Croix.

Sent out single figures ($8.80), he was simply left with too much to do.

Happy to concede from the wide draw, he spotted them a huge start on straightening and hard not to like what he did late.

At his best at 1400m to a mile, he is very talented and Friday's race looked a perfect starting point for him.

Rated 101 by Timeform, he has a fair bit of room to move on that first up effort and while he hasn't won a race since April, he is knocking on the door.

Happy to argue he should have won the first two legs of the 4YO series, he just needs to draw a gate.

Very interested to see where Walker heads with him, he is definitely one to follow.
