Lightning Jack wins Gore Guineas, Listed, NZ$50,000 at Gore, 1335m.
At start seven, Lightning Jack made it back-to-back wins with a maiden stakes success. He began well but started to drift soon after and passing the 1000m was seventh yet improving.
From the 600m he rounded into the straight travelling well, went widest and went after the leaders. Maintaining a strong run he levelled up then lunged late to get the decision by a nose.
Live Drama was a handy third at the 600m, challenged one off the fence turning for home and looked the winner at the 100m. Near the post he still led but was collared late and had to settle for second.
Bronte Beach was midfield turning for home, threaded between runners then found a narrow gap late, flying to grab a close third, while Tears Of An Angel had every chance at the 200m and battled well to hold fourth.
