Babar resigned as all-format skipper in November following an underwhelming 50-over World Cup campaign, with Shan Masood inheriting the Test role and fast bowler Shaheen Shah Afridi stepping in for limited-overs cricket.

Afridi has now been replaced after a solitary series at the helm, which saw Pakistan thumped 4-1 by New Zealand.

Babar will resume duties at home to the same opposition in April before overseeing a T20 series in England.

Attention will then turn to his side's next tournament tilt in the T20 World Cup, where they have been placed in Group A alongside India, Ireland, Canada and co-hosts United States of America.

Pakistan will aim to go one better this time, as they were beaten by England in the final in 2022.
